The DTC Mentoring Framework is the original education innovation — a multi-year pipeline built by Design Team Collaboration International that takes students from early curiosity through real project work, skill credential building, and placement into careers, advanced degrees, or entrepreneurial ventures. It is not a summer program or an after-school club. It is a structured, documented, mentor-intensive multi-year commitment.

Pipeline Structure

  • Discovery Phase (ages 12–14): Exposure to DTC research areas — energy, medical, food, manufacturing, civic tech
  • Exploration Phase (ages 14–16): Structured project assignment with a mentor in a specific DTC domain
  • Contribution Phase (ages 16–18): Meaningful contribution to an active DTC product or research initiative
  • Leadership Phase (ages 18–22): Lead a project team, mentor junior students, develop entrepreneurial competencies
  • Placement Phase: Career, apprenticeship, university, or DTC-affiliated startup — tracked and supported
  • Alumni Network: Graduates stay connected and become mentors in the next pipeline cycle

What Students Earn

  • Skill badges — granular, verifiable competencies in specific tools, techniques, and domains
  • Project portfolio — documented real work product, not class projects
  • Mentor references — from actual engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, and researchers
  • DTC network access — introductions to employers, investors, and collaborators worldwide
  • Potential IP co-ownership for innovations developed in the pipeline
  • International exposure — ICC collaboration nodes in Malaysia, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh

Mentor Qualifications

  • Active participation in a DTC research or product area — not classroom teachers only
  • Minimum 3-year DTC network engagement
  • Background verification and student safety screening
  • Annual mentor training on effective mentorship, student development, and documentation
  • Accountability to program outcomes — student placement tracked, mentor performance reviewed
